Counselling Counselling can enable us to understand more about ourselves and lead a more fulfilling life. We can all feel uncertain and distressed at times, frustrated and overwhelmed by our situation. Talking to a counsellor, a neutral person outside of our lives can be really helpful. Counsellors offer non-judgemental support rather than advice, enabling clients to develop insight into their difficulties. Confidentiality is essential in the counselling relationship. Everything that takes place between the counsellor and client is treated with respect and discretion.
Specialist Women’s CounsellingBWC has a team of trained and experienced women counsellors carefully selected to meet the needs of women looking for counselling from an independent service. Our aim is to offer counselling to all women and so our charges start from as little as £5. We offer short-term counselling, comprising 12 weekly sessions, where women choose the fee they can afford. We also offer longer term counselling, comprising 24 sessions.
Support For All WomenAll of our counsellors have experience in helping with a range of difficulties and distress. These include: relationships, low self-esteem and confidence, abuse issues, anxiety, depression, life changes, addictions and loss. We also have counsellors who specialise in domestic and sexual abuse and trauma. We can often experience multiple difficulties and need to talk over several areas. Our counsellors offer support with any area of distress. They hold a range of evidence-based psychological approaches. Most counsellors can draw from several orientations including: Integrative, Psychodynamic, Person Centred, Transactional Analysis, Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural. Counsellors are professionally supervised and managed and all members of the team adhere to the BACP code of ethics and good practice.
How to ApplyThe first step is to fill out an application form. This can be downloaded here or you can request a paper copy be sent to you. When filling out the form it is important to indicate your availability, which will enable us to offer you a counsellor as soon as possible.
Once we receive your form, we aim to offer you an assessment appointment with the counselling manager within 2 months. This can often be sooner as the waiting list does fluctuate.
We also provide opportunities for longer termed counselling, lesbian couple counselling and group counselling. For further information email the counselling service or call 01273 698 036.
We offer a confidential and non-discriminatory environment, however, the counselling is on the second floor and access can be restrictive for wheelchair users and women who have difficulty with stairs.
