Inspire Project

A Women's Community Project for Women Offenders

An enhanced community provision for women offenders and women at risk of offending has been developed by a partnership involving the women’s voluntary sector in Brighton and Hove: Brighton Oasis Project, Threshold (BHT), Rise, Survivor’s Network, and BWC as the lead agency.

Together they form Inspire, based at BWC, working with women who have offended and those at risk of offending.

Some 44% of women offenders nationally have experienced domestic and sexual violence; up to 80% have diagnosable mental health issues and 73% have used non-prescription drugs.

Women offenders with a range of complex issues can be supported at Inspire. They will be allocated a lead case worker who will accompany them through the whole process.

Women are able to access a range of services, addressing unemployment, improving literacy and numeracy, as well as working with issues such as domestic and sexual violence, substance misuse and mental health. Addressing these issues helps to reduce women’s offending and re-offending through an holistic women-centred approach.

If you require more information, please email an Inspire caseworker or email the Inspire Project Co-ordinator.
